The next stop on our tour of North Campus is the Chapel. Built in 1832, the Chapel is one of the most aesthetically pleasing buildings at UGA. At the time of its construction, it was the finest building on campus. In the early days, students and faculty attended church services three times each week here. Today, the Chapel is used for assemblies, concerts and lectures.
A bell tower originally crowned the roof, and in 1913, the bell was placed at the top of a wooden tower at the back of the Chapel. The bell is rung to mark athletic victories or other special occasions. Best viewed large.
