The MGB was produced from 1962 - 1980, and was the most popular sports car of its time. In the second half of 1974, the B was extensively modified to meet American safety and emissions standards. The iconic twin SU carbs were replaced with a single carb, the beautiful chrome bumpers were replaced with unsightly black rubber safety bumpers and the ride height was increased by 1.5 inches to meet U.S. headlight height rules. The result was less power, less beauty and less cornering ability. However, the B still sold well right until its demise in 1980. I owned a 1970 chrome bumper B for many years, and it was one of the most fun cars I've ever driven.
You'r right Danny, the US required modifications took away the essential character of the vehicle... but these still look very pretty - and far removed from the cars of today.
