Brusa la vecia by spectrum

Brusa la vecia

"Brusa la Vecia" is dialect and literally means "Burn the old woman". It is a celebration at the closure of the holiday season. The spectacular blaze of the fetish recalls the ancient ritual of the epiphany in the folk tradition. Rite of passage from the old to the new, from the bad to the good season, to ward off the evil and propitiation of the good.
Very interesting!

I couldn't stay until the end of the event because I had to go to watch a basketball game. This is the reason why I didn't have a shot of the "vecia" in fire.
The day after I read on the local newspaper that the omen of the bonfire was positive: the flames have gone to the south. According to the tradition this would indicate the 2016 will be a prosperous year.
For sure tourists like stuff like this: there was fifteen thousand people to watch it.

@spectrum Fascinating. With 15.000 people you would have hardly gotten a shot that is that close. There is a similar tradition for the Fat Tuesday in Russia - A figure of winter gets burned, hoping she takes away all what's bad.
