Day 088, Year 4 - Snowdon Storm

Best viewed large on black if you have time :)

This is taken last week during a few days holiday with my family in north Wales, outside the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog not far from Snowdon. We had spent a few hours in the nearby town of Betws-Y-Coed for lunch and a look round, and on the way back to the lodge I pulled the car over to grab my first shots of this beautiful region. The weather was pretty poor but the break in the clouds with some sunlight coming through made for some very dramatic skies.

A shot from the following day can be seen here:

3 good things:

1 - Spending a few hours in Betws-Y-Coed
2 - A good run up and over the hills near the lodge
3 - Dinner with my whole family that evening
I like this one better ---- love the darkness of the sky rolling over the hill.

We have scenery in the UK to match anywhere in the world. This is a wonderful capture of the drama of Snowdon. Must revisit.

Love those heavy clouds, and then the light mid way down. I went here many many many years ago on a geography field trip!

@helenhall Agreed. I couldn't quite believe how nice it was and how close it all is to everything. After a bit of a drive from London I was staying right in the hills with peaks only 5 miles away with views that rival European mountains, and so easy to get to as well.

It's such a beautiful part of the world. Love the drama of the sky and the little white building on the patch of green.
