Day 015, Year 5 - Dying Embers Towards Dubai

I'm kind of repeating myself with shot on the plane from London to the UAE, but I really like the view from the right hand side of the plane as you get a great scene as the sun goes down. This was somewhere near the Turkey/Iran border and it kept me entertained for a long time.

3 good things:

1 - Another enjoyable flight from London to Dubai
2 - Getting to see two new movies and some TV drama during the flight
3 - Good to finally get to the hotel after a pretty long day travelling
Well I never had a view like this on any plane I have been on, it's stunning! I thought it was a plane flying bedside you at first! A bit near fir comfort ha ha! Let's hope I get lucky on my trip to Dubai on the 6th Feb!

@happypat Ooh so close......!
I'm going back on Monday 6th Feb so you might be getting on the plane I arrive back on depending on when and from where you fly :)

Glad you were so high up here! Wouldn't like to be down near those two countries. Super rich colours!

@stevecameras ha ha we might pass in the air! I get the 20.10 from Manchester flying Emirates to Dubai then the long new 16 hour flight to Auckland, rather nervous about that one as we've only done 14 hours before. Get on & grit my teeth I think.

I am always pressed against the window camera when I see light like this. Good work.

@happypat You'll be reet...just take regular walking breaks up and down the plane and get into some good movies on the ICE entertainment system.
Can I ask do you use apps on a smart phone such as iPhone?
The Emirates app is good - you can enter your name and your booking reference and then choose your seats, as long as you log on 48 hours before the flight.
Then you can choose a window for some piccies. :)
Otherwise as soon as you get to the airport and the check-in desk (maybe get there a bit earlier for this :) ask if you can have a window seat.
I'm thinking that the right hand side will still be better for sunrise given you are flying late, but maybe the left. You could Google that to see if the internet can tell you which side it might be on (if at all) during your flight.
Hope that helps Pat.

@cruiser Always try for a window and I do try and choose the right side for the right view IE sunsets one way, and the London skyline on the return :)

@stevecameras Thanks Steve you are very helpful. I have been allotted a seat & I did check it was a window seat & one with only two seats so that even better! Not sure if it's over a wing or not, I will have to check again. I have an iPhone but don't have the Emirates ap so must download that. I like watching films & I always have my kindle so plenty to do, it's the sleeping I'm bad at. Never know whether to get something like night nurse or not, do t know whether I dare risk it but it's a long flight without sleep. My DIL came over & was in business class, they gave her something called Sleep , I tried one but it was useless, it did say two so probably didn't take proper dose. I have three left but if I try two I won't have enough for the flight! Drug talk, not good really ha ha!

@happypat Great that'll be awesome especially as two seats means less people to worry about with going to the loo and for a wander :)
Get the app as it's generally good to have it for future flights too - the return journey for example :)
That is a long flight but I don't tend to sleep either. I find if I really need to then I do and I grab a few winks. As for sleeping aids I have never taken one so can't advise but I am sure one or two sleeping tablet would be ok.
*I am not a doctor so worth checking with your DIL. :)

@stevecameras thanks Steve but I shall probably do without, if I have a problem I will rethink for the return journey. Going on my own this time so have to stay alert & well!

@happypat I think when we travelled recently Pat, I just resigned myself to not sleeping. Watched movies, did puzzles, climbed over people to do some pacing etc
