Day 214, Year 5 - Alexis & The Ocean by stevecameras

Day 214, Year 5 - Alexis & The Ocean

During our stay in west Norfolk last week at the lovely West Lexham glamp-site we made a few trips out during the day. One included a quick visit up to Brancaster beach on the north Norfolk coast.

It's a very lovely beach in general but on this day we had a little rain, fairly strong winds, and even a pretty nasty sand storm across the beach at one point. But in the hour we were there, Alexis decided she would brave the cold and go swimming in the sea.

It was pretty cold, and I managed only up to my shorts but that was it.

On the one hand she's crazy, but she's also brave and fearless in many respects. I love how she seems to be confidently looking out into the sea, hands-on-hips, without a care in the world.

She has two families she goes between, with me and her mum not being together, lots of places that various families live, and sometimes is moved form one place to another far more than some other 8 year olds, and seems to handle it better than some grown-ups would.

She continues to surprise and inspire me to do the best for her, but be a better person in myself. I'm very lucky to be her Dad.

3 good things:

1 - A very chilled start to the day with Alexis in the cabin
2 - Briefly seeing my friend Georgie in Thornham at her work during the day
3 - Fish & chips for dinner at Eric's in Thornham with Alexis and some friends from the campsite
You are a very good dad Steve, Alex makes you proud as she will be of you. Won't do her any harm as she has so many who love her. Brave girl walking in that sea!

What a lovely tribute to your daughter. It is clear from your project how much you love her - and she will know that. My guess is that she is lucky to have you as her dad. The picture gives a sense of the guts needed to brave the water. It looks cold.
