This blue heron was about to eat his breakfast when we interrupted him. We were walking the golf course near our home early in the morning when we spotted him - and he spotted us. He kept turning his back to us so we wouldn't see him. Poor guy, he was afraid that if he flew off he would lose his prize and yet he knew we were about to take it from him if we saw it. It was not easy getting this profile picture rather than his back!!
I am joining Andy (@amfrumbiddivurd) and a few others in posting a picture a day from our old files.
What a great capture! Perfect profile with that fish in his mouth. We get blue herons in our neighborhood -- or did! The come over from the Zoo's Safari Park near us and lunch on all the Koi in the Koi ponds some of those in the neighborhoodk have in their yards. I say "did" because most or all who have the ponds have put wire over the top to protect their fish. Havent seen many herons around here lately.
@moviegal1 Thank you so much for the FAV. This is one of my favorite photos ever as I usually don't have the patience to wait for wildlife so that I can take a picture. This guy just waited for me!
Sashimi for breakfast! And here I thought I'd gotten a good photo of a bird playing with a fish a couple of weeks ago, but on a completely different scale than yours. Great shot!
Great detail Fav.
