Sunday football day precluded my ability to get out and take some photos so here's a fill-in from one my the summer adventure rides. This year's big event was a gathering in Alberta, Canada near Banff, an area of unimaginable beauty. The Canadian Rockies are stunningly magnificent. On this ride I was riding sweep, affording me the ability to capture some fun images with the group out in front. Every corner we came around presented us with another view more stunning than the previous view. Incredible. I caught myself saying wow, more than once.
@maggiemae The bike for this ride was my Harley Road Glide, an incredible machine custom made for long beautiful road trip. I've actually considered picking up one of the new Indians - and I know well your affinity for them. But I'd really like to have one of the old "real" versions - that's the real deal. This gathering was actually for those of us that ride the Road Glide. We have an annual gathering of the "shark nose" that we fondly refer to as Shark Week. Lots of run with some really awesome people. The Indian would be given only grudging acceptance. Which reminds me of a question that I wanted to pose to you. Whatever became of Burt's old bikes? I'm assuming museum bound?
Superb image, scenery, detail and adventure Ron, to answer your question on Burt Munro's Bike I understand the original is still in California see the attached link, or maybe the next trip will be to Invercargill in New Zealand to see a replica bike on display in the museum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW9Y_RwEBgw
Breathtaking beauty! It would be so hard to keep your eyes on the road when all they'd really want to do was study the landscape. Love the rich blues and greens you captured.
This is composed perfectly! Love the motorbikes to the side with awesome leading lines and the timing majestic mountains surrounded by clouds. Superb shot!
@pcoulson Thanks for the link Peter. I remember seeing that some time ago. Jay Leno (who graced us with his presence earlier this year when some of us were preparing for this adventure in the Hollywood area) would probably kill to get the bike in his collection. Still not sure in what location the bike resides. Maybe MaggieMae can provide some insight. Thanks for the kind comments on the shot!
@onewing@shepherdmanswife I did indeed shoot this (and many others "from the saddle" while riding). I've been taking such shots for almost as long as I've been riding. It's really not so dangerous, and I like to use it to help people visualize how cool a view it is from behind the handlebars. Thanks for the comments!
@lyndemc Rich greens and blues are the colors I choose.....or something like that. Thanks Denise. Yes, it is sometimes difficult to fight the urge to gaze at the amazing landscape. Good think I'm half blind!
@terryliv Thanks Poppo. Beautiful in the summer for sure. I'll steer clear of the area come winter though. There were reports of snow before September even arrived.
@cjphoto Ha, thanks Chris, but you give me too much credit. All those qualities were more or less accidental good fortune. Thanks for the kind comments.
Ron, this is absolutely stunning. It's also one of our favorite places. I have family living within an hour and less from Banff. Those Canadian Rockies are unbelievably beautiful. FAV for sure.
@stray_shooter Ron I found this link on the bike I can not check the owners details as the records are restricted to residents in the USA, may be you could search the Los Osos California records, its worth a try just to see if you can get to see it:) http://www.pbase.com/noyphoto/image/139877913
@pcoulson Well, shoot I used to live right there! Yeah, the photo came out for me - I didn't know you could restrict access by country. Looks like it's in a private collection. Gentleman by the name of Tom Hensley. Lucky guy. There is vintage motorcycle museum in Solvang, not far from there. (I believe I recall you had visited that town). I wonder if it's ever on display there. Worth a ride anyway! Thanks for the link!
@joysfocus Ha, yes, I COULD do that - but won't. I've got a friend who's a big time surfer and he jumps on the seat and rides it like a surfboard. Think I'll pass.
