The Man With The Golden Arm....and Torso....and Face...and....
I spent some time taking street shots at Venice Beach, which is akin to shooting fish in a barrel. Every wacko, weirdo, and nutjob that escapes San Francisco ultimately ends up in Venice Beach it seems. A large concentration of "interesting characters" that provided a wealth of material for sharing with my fellow 365ers.
What I learned in taking this photo: To get a good "freebie" street shot, wait until somebody else pays the subject and shoot when they're occupied.....and don't get caught!
Whoa, would not like to meet him in dull light... the child doesn't look too sure, even though the guy holding her is laughing.. well caught Ron..
you HAVE to pay to take a shot?? it's not like that here. we are allowed to take photos of anything so long as we are on public land/property without having to pay for the privilege..
there is a guy in York, UK who is the lilac equivalent of your Golden guy. the lilac guy does not wear a mask though, he paints his face to match all else, so he doesn't seem so scary because, when he speaks, his face moves.. it's a good image, one which is bringing out emotions..
We have also been invaded by these golden guys here in Copenhagen recently, is there a pattern.
I don't know, I don't seem to get a sense of pleasant company from this guy.
Your skill level is impeccable though.
Did you get that Venice description from Wikipedia? (haha!) If it's not there, yours should be!!! You are 100% spot on! That poor kid...any wonder why some people grow up to be freaked by clowns?! She has just gone into that transition! (You're getting out to some wonderful locations!)
@onewing Oh, his mask is worse than his bite Babs. Somewhere I caught a shot of the gentleman without his mask, and trust me, he's a pussycat. Thanks for weighing in!
@taffy Thanks Taffy. Yeah, the little girl was not all that happy. But Mom, who was off to my right with an iPhone, was insistent on getting this shot. They've probably screwed up the little girl for the rest of her life.
@jorlam Thanks for the feedback Jorlam. You are not really required to pay these folks, but most of them do work for tips, so it's sort of those things that you don't HAVE to do that you have to do. I ended up slipping one guy (who shall appear here on 365 in due time) a five dollar bill, but he's the only one that I "tipped." I don't mind giving someone a little cash here and there, especially if it's a shot that's obviously featuring them, but for the true candid shots, I keep my cash in my wallet.
@runner365 Wow, I hope this doesn't become a fad. I'd never seen this guy, nor have I seen anyone similar, before. He actually was a very nice guy - masks deceive apparently! Thank you Mr. Claes.
@simta Да он был не такой страшный парень с этой маской удалены. Я не думаю, что маленькая девочка заботился хотя. Она боялась в обеих ситуациях. Спасибо, Татьяна.
@rookynook Thanks rooky! Yes, the poor little girl was the only one finding nothing to be amused about. She helped make for a fun street shot though! Thanks for stopping by to view and comment!
@stray_shooter I stumbled over one of them in Paris some years ago. Last time I went through "Stroget" (you might remember the tourist trap of a pedestrian street in Copenhagen there were 3 of them - and Stroget is not really that big.
You're very welcome Herr Ron :-)
