I Hear the Train A Comin', It's Rollin' Round the Bend
Once again I'm reverting back to a shot taken this past summer. I previously posted a shot of the train getting ready to depart Durango. Here it is on the other end, arriving in Silverton. At this point riders, having been on the train for well over three hours, are quite ready to disembark and grab some refreshments, maybe grab a beer, and listen to a little honky tonk piano.
Had to favourite this so I could show it to the men in my house - we are terribly English and are all very fond of steam trains, so it's fun to see a US train. Such different designs. Nice shot coming around the bend.
@shannejw I'm interested in your suggestion, but when I clicked on the link it came up empty. I reached your Flikr page, but the image that you intended didn't appear. On my previous shot of the train, from the January 30 posting, I gave it kind of a heavy duty HDR to bring out the details in the locomotive and the smoke. Is that somewhat of what you were thinking?
@casablanca Thanks so much for stopping by and offering your kind commentary. Had to laugh at identifying yourself as "so terribly English." You guys never cease to make me smile and admire.
@pcoulson Thanks very much Peter. Indeed, riding on the train truly is like stepping back in time....complete with getting your clothes covered in soot!
@louannwarren Thank you kindly Lou Ann. Indeed, it is a 90 degree turn, taken pretty slowly. It's actually the end of the ride where the train pulls up into town, so it's moving pretty slowly....at least this time it was.
@yorkshirekiwi@mwhipple@sunnygirl Since you all mentioned the POV, I'll thank you all as a group for that observation. Not that there were all that many choices, but it was a fortuitous spot to shoot from.
@stray_shooter sorry - I left it up for a couple of days and it got quite a few views. It was a grungy hdr image. (I was in the middle of taking 2000 pictures off that account so that I could stop paying Flickr when my renewal comes up at the end of the month, because I'm not happy with their latest changes.)
I think this is the sort of shot I'd over-process using tone mapping - either using Luminance or the tone map options on GIMP - this is only on the small version https://www.flickr.com/photos/12323897@N04/47079943131/in/datetaken-public/
