last night, little wahoo watched grandmere make pork chops stewed in tomatoes, a favourite of grandpa jimbo. she has seen grandmere cook this quite often for grandpa and she'd put a lot of tomatoes and basil leaves. grandmere explained that tomato is good for grandpa so that his prostate would stay healthy. tomato is rich in lycopene and that the more it is cooked the more lycopene it produces and lycopene prevents prostate cancer. a few years ago, grandpa has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. he is cured now but he has to eat plenty of tomatoes.
anywho, little wahoo has watched how grandmere cooked the pork chop. then she said she would have to cook something for herself the next day because she does not eat meat. little wahoo knows that grandmere makes tuna stew so she set about to surprise her when she wakes up the next morning.
little wahoo opens three cans of tuna, sautees chopped onion and sliced zucchini in a teaspoon of vegetable oil. she has a hard time climbing up the cupboard to get that little bottle of basil that grandma likes to put in her cooking. she opens the bottle and is so entranced by the smell of the basil leaves that she feels like floating on air. until she notices that the onions are almost burning in the pan so she puts in the tuna.
ooops! tomatoes! little wahoo has a problem, however. she needs to open a can of tomatoes and she cannot do that. drat! and then she remembers that grandmere keeps in the fridge a small jar of tomato sauce that her pretty italian friend gave her a while ago. she opens the jar and pours it all in the pot with the tuna and zucchini. oooooh! the whole apartment starts to smell nice which wakes grandmere up. when grandmere sees little wahoo and her fabulous recipe, she smiles and say "what smells so good?"
little wahoo says "it's the basil. i put a lot in the stew, grandmere. i like to season all our food with basil."
grandmere takes a spoon and tastes the tuna stew. it tastes heavenly, even though it has more basil than she would like. but if little whaoo wants to use a lot of it to season her food, it's quite okay.
@karenann - thank you, karenann. haha! my partner was looking at this earlier and said "that's a beautiful photo of your stew. but why is there a toy with it?" tee-hee!
I have just read through your ssc pictures, they are like a delightful child's picture book. Thanks for all the detail and writing along with your fun pictures.
@cscecil - hahaha! it's a deal, CS, says little wahoo. thank you.
@pandorasecho - thank you, dixie. and thank you for the follow. i will have little wahoo on for the rest of the january challenge which is until tomorrow. after that, i think that she will have a recurring role around here.
Many food photos don't make the food look as good as it tastes..this does though! And Wahoo is so adorable. I have this rock called "Huckleberry Pinhead" that my niece and nephew helped name (using a computer name generator) about 4 years ago...back when they were still " little." We took the rock to places we'd go and shoot photos of him. I may have to wake him up and ask him to pose a bit for me if I run out of inspiration. Haha
@espyetta - i was surprised at how the colours came out to be exactly as it is in person. and it looks yummy and it does taste yummy. and of course it's good for my cholesterol. pinhead deserves to be featured on 365! come on, MB. and thank you.
