little wahoo and grandmere woke up early to ride with grandpa jimbo. grandpa had to pick up a delivery near the international airport and would deliver it downtown. grandmere thought it would be good for little wahoo to see other things like airplanes, and places like the airport and downtown toronto.
little wahoo enjoyed watching grandmere take photos of airplanes that were coming down so low that little wahoo was afraid that it might land on grandmere's head. the planes were really big and loud but they were also very bright. some planes were bigger and some were smaller. she did enjoy it and for a while she told grandmere that she would like to become a pilot.
then they went to the lakeshore where little wahoo can see only half of the CN tower because of the heavy clouds. it also started to snow. little wahoo was overwhelmed that this lake was so big. she watched as a number of seagulls and joggers passed by.
when they were near home after grandpa jimbo had made his delivery (little wahoo did not like downtown much), little wahoo asked if grandmere can take her to that little lake where grandmere took pictures of boats. when they got to ashbridges bay, there were a number of loons and ducks and swans. little wahoo fell in love with a handsome loon that was swimming around in the water. it had beautiful colours.
little wahoo told grandmere that she would like to swim like the loon and the duck that she was watching. grandmere told her that it is not possible for her to be able to swim like them.
"but, why, grandmere?" asked little wahoo.
"because cows don't really swim," said grandmere. "it is the nature of things. cows don't swim and ducks and loons do."
"nature?" little wahoo asked. her face lit up and she gave a small laugh.
"what's funny?" asked grandmere.
"well, we've found another treasure for your treasure hunt, grandmere. we found nature!" little wahoo answered.
"good heavens, we did, didn't we?"
"yes," little wahoo said. then she looked back at the handsome loon which dove into the water, his butt wriggling in the air and came back up with a tiny fish in its beak. "it's in the nature of loons to swim."
with another mission accomplished, little wahoo and grandmere went back to the grandpa jimbo's car and they went home.
