Z by summerfield

Z

i grew up in a country that is in awe of the americans and its culture. despite the 500 years of spanish rule, it is the 50 years of american domination that influenced our choice of a second language. american english was embraced instantly and even the most illiterate person you come across with would be able to communicate with you in english, albeit what we call "broken" or carabao english (carabao is the country's beast of burden). the americans wanted to communicate with us so they taught us their launguage. but spanish, no way, jose. the spaniards did not want the natives to learn their language, because to them, the less they know the better for them.

that's my lead up to the way the letter Z is pronounced. the americans taught us to say 'zee', and even though i knew it is pronounced 'zed' in the proper english, imagine the slight adjustment i had to make at the age of 35 when i moved to canada. at work, whenever i had to spell a word or name (over the phone or in person) containing the letter Z, it always came back to me with the 'z' replaced by a 'c', no matter that i would spell it to them as "zee as in zebra". they must have been wondering what a 'cebra' was. (a 'cebra' is a mid-size undergarment worn by humans of the female kind; a 'zebra' is a striped animal of the horse kind, n'est-ce pas?).

i found this letter Z at a construction downtown, on my way to meeting some high school friends for lunch.

my Z is quite zippy, ain't it?

and that, folks, is the end of our found alphabet challenge. thank you to ann @olivetreeann for this wonderful challenge.

Z is for zebra. Yes, I love the Spanish language. I had a few semesters of Castilian Spanish in college. Can't remember any of it now. I love the Romantic languages. Funny story on the cebra . . lol. You found a great and final photo for your alphabet, summerfield. Mission accomplished.

@summerfield You are welcome. I'm going to put all my letters together in a collage for one of these bonus days. I love seeing them as a whole after being so focused on them one by one.
