in my very first job, some of us newbies were made to operate the radio equipment when communicating with the branch offices in other cities and provinces. some words are difficult to ascretain in one way radio communications therefore spelling a word, or more importantly a name, is necessary. however, some operators cannot understand the regular radio phonetic alphabet so that a separate set of phonetic alphabet using the names of countries was sometimes used. these are the countries i remember we used at the time (from the top row, left to right):
america
brazil
canada
denmark
england
france
germany
holland
italy
japan
korea
luxembourg
mexico
norway
oman
peru
qatar
russia
singapore
turkey
uganda
venezuela
yemen
zimbabwe
for W either washington or wellington was used while for X we used x-ray.
and that wraps up this month's challenge of found alphabets. i hope you enjoyed it, ladies and gentlemen. until next time. good night.
