i said i'd make him chili and i did. prepped it last night then today, made it sit on the slow cooker the whole day. made with lean ground beef, a can of whole tomatoes, a can of red kidney beans, three cups of the herbed tomato sauce from my italian friend, lots of diced onions, some oregano, two bay leaves, and a whole pot of basil (well, just the plants, not the pot and soil), seasoned with coarsely ground black pepper and a sprinkling of ground cayenne pepper.
partner would eat this either with brown rice or most likely he'll get one of those 'artisan' bread with ancient grains. when i still ate meat, i ate this over pieces of romaine salad, with some grated old cheddar cheese. nowadays, i just watch him eat it.
i didn't taste this, but i know it's good. trust me!
Sounds and looks delicious!! I want a wee bit . . unless it's really HOT! (spicey!) What don't you do well my friend. You're a master at everything. I, on the other hand, am the "Jack of all trades . . and, well . . I won't finish this..." :)
@cscecil - well, it sure smells deliciously good. and partner said i outdid myself yet again! so it must be good! thank you, CS.
@beba8162 - thank you, roberta. it does look good in picture even. hahaha! sometimes i post a picture and i don't even look at it.
@karenann - i am a jack of all trades but a master of none. what don't i do well, there's a lot of things, and i have a long list. even longer list is what i cannot do! hahaha! thank you, karenann. i love having you around.
@olivetreeann - it was and still is. once again, i'll be amazed at this man eating the same thing for three or four days straight. there was one time, we had company for dinner. and since i was already cooking, i made the chili so he'd have it for the week. one visitor asked to taste it, liked it and everyone else asked to have a taste. no leftover for him and he felt bad. thank you, ann.
Looks delicious- I used to make turkey-black bean chili but my new husband doesnt like chili. Too much to make for myself so I make it a couple times of year and bring it to work.
We all have our just don't do foods, beans are mine,"Jackie is secretly grateful for that "So i'd enjoy a plateful of your chili con carne on rice but when done ,there will be a little pile of beans left on my plate.
@steeler - hahaha! well then we just have to make you something else without the beans, eh? thank you, howard.
@myhrhelper - noodles? people eat chili with noodles? horrors! partner said it is quite spicy. i only sprinkled a very minute amount of cayenne pepper; however, the label says the longer the meat is cooked the spicier it will become. thank you, kathy.
awesome chili and pic. i made some today. it's one of my favourite meals. my recipe is similar - the biggest differences being an old el paso spice mix and some chopped celery, peppers and carrots
chili!
