sad

this morning it was damning cold. after five this evening, the sun was shining brightly the wind had died down and the temperatures were quite decent. so i moseyed on down to "my" magnolia tree and here's what i found.

the flowers still hadn't bloomed and their tips were all brown, the poor things. i'm sad. and the other tree that had all the buds, most of the buds had fallen off from the branches.

i just hope they can recover. but i suppose it is quite hard when the temperature is 3 or 4 one day and right the next day it's 15-18.

i'll go back there one more time next week to check it out. otherwise, i'll hike to ottawa to see the tulips in may!
too bad about the buds. we've sure had some unusual weather this year and it's probably caused some damage around here too. looks like a lovely day in To. Great day to be out.

Sorry to hear about your magnolia. Same thing is going on out here. All the petals have fallen away. Except one tiny one near my house. I don't know who lives there. Have never seen them or heard of anyone who has. But where all the other towering trees have lasted but a week, this little one still clings on...and its vibrant. Deep purple fading to pink. I'd like to snap a shot, but I feel like if I do, my capture will never do them justice.

Beautiful photo, summerfield. Even with the cold and frost, they have a beauty of their own. Ours did the same here .. but who knows. They may come back! I was out checking other bushes and trees today and I saw other signs of life coming back. Not the magnolias tho.

oh the poor blossoms! They really are delicate and if the temps aren't right, they are usually sunk -- or brown in this case. So glad you tried to get them....but the weather sure did not cooperate at all!

@sunnygreenwood - it was a jekyll and hyde day yesterday (march 31st). in the morning, it was windy and biting cold. then the sun came up in the late afternoon and it was almost late spring again, that's why i decided to go and visit the magnolia tree. only to find this. thank you, anne.

@espyetta - i hope so, too. thank you, MB.

@losthorizon - well, beau, maybe it's hanging on so someone could take a photo for posterity's sake. :-) thank you, beau.
