the gift of life

i support and believe in organ and tissue donation - this is truly the gift of life.

the green ribbon is the symbol for organ donation in ontario.

as you know, last week, after seven years of being on the waiting list for a kidney transplant, my brother who lives in chicago, was told that there was a donor match for him. however, the tests performed on his blood and the donor's blood were not good, so there was no operation.

every time i renew my license, i make it a point to update my organ donation card. even before my brother got sick, it is the one cause i truly believe in.

my symbols for the four wednesdays in september will be the coloured ribbons. guess what colour will be for next week?

posting in advance as i am extremely busy at work. i know i won't have time to do any photographing tomorrow.

thank you, folks, for your kind views and comments; please know that i sincerely appreciate them. i shall try and catch up with yours as soon as i'm able.
Summerfield I am totally with you on this cause

Wonderful cause. We had an elderly gent in the next town have a sandwich made to wear asking for people to be tested and donate a kidney to his wife of 56 years who's kidney was failing. He got 63 people who volunteered. Testing has begun so hopefully a match may come. Bless you..

@cheribug - thank you, cheryl. when my brother started to have dialysis, his youngest daughter who was 17 at the time went into facebook and wrote a very heart-rending plea. she was willing to give her one kidney, one lung, anything she could give in exchange for her dad to have a new kidney.

Beautiful reminder of what we can do to save another's life! I hope and pray that your brother gets a compatible transplant soon, summerfield. The only color ribbon that I'm familiar with is "pink." Would be nice to know what all of the colors symbolize. Take care.

Nice symbol- still hoping that a match will turn up soon for your brother. We have a friend in church who is also waiting. They are both in my prayers. I know the pink ribbons have been around a while, but there are so many out there now that who knows! Another friend of mine wears one for autism. That looks multi-colored and then there's always the yellow ones! So we'll all be surprised I'm sure!

@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. i think the ribbon symbol was popularized by celebrities during awards shows, notably they wore red ribbons to commemorate their colleagues who had HIV/AIDS. and then the pink ribbon got noticed and now the ribbon movements has gone big. i like wearing them, though.

When I was in High School Biology, the class had a skeleton that had been donated. We loved him, named him and snuck in the room to pose him, like at the teachers desk with a baseball cap on an a basketball under one hand, and we learned from him. I thought what a lot more fun than what happens to most bodies.
