that's one of my future plans, after i retire. i really would like to take up formal piano lessons and learn to play properly.
i had a cousin who played in a band and owned an electric guitar. he would leave it at our home to make sure his siblings or his father who was an alcoholic would not pawn or sell it while he's sleeping. so i taught myself how to play it, using my grade school knowledge of the basic scale; it also helped that i remembered the sharps and flats and rests and beats and all other stuff that you get to see in a musical sheet. then in 1978, my then boyfriend surprised me with a guitar:
scenario:
bf: i have a surprise treat for you.
me: hmmm...[looking at him suspiciously] no strings attached, i hope?
bf: [blushing, flabbergasted, then smiling sheepishly] ah...er...ah...yes!
me: [suddenly excited, eyes wide in delight] oh, my god! you got me a guitar???
and that was because he saw me at a guitar store trying out one. so, maybe he thought my playing was lousy, he enrolled me at the yamaha school of music. the picture on the left was during the 'graduation' recital where i missed a note on "romance d'amour" but i kept on playing and nobody noticed it except the teacher.
what i really want is to play the piano properly. i can play a few pieces but i know it's not the proper way to play them. the photo on the right was taken in 1988, during my first winter in canada when my sister and i purchased an electric piano for her husband. that piano lived with me for a few months after they separated and partner wasn't interested in listening to me play. :-( but no matter, i will take up formal piano lessons soon!
i LOVE the picture of you playing the guitar! You look like a natural at playing! It's a very endearing picture! And YES, by all means learn to play the piano! I took flute lessons and learned how to play 7 years ago! As a child, I taught myself how to play the piano on a cardboard keyboard I made, then finally we got a piano and I got to take real lessons. Have played piano and organ and guitar for years. Next I want to learn how to play the hammer dulcimer......! You go, girl!!!
I remember learning to play the guitarand the banjo in my younger years... But my dream has always been the piano, Great piicturrs loved the read too ;)
Great goal! I always wanted to play the piano and guitar. I took two classes and decided that while I wanted to know how to play, I didn't want to LEARN how to play
@cscecil - well, you get to learn how to play the flute because you get to practice your music ever since. i haven't played the guitar since world war two and certainly the hours i've logged on a piano would not exceed two weeks. maybe i'll just learn how to play the flute! thank you, CS!
@claireuk - hahaha! my sister who came after me, loves to sing, but singing doesn't like her, ever! even her baby when she would rock her to sleep she'd be wailing like she had a pin stuck on her skin, but if my sister stopped singing, the baby would calm down. :-) thank you, claire.
@salza - see my reply to abhijit. :-) thank you, sally.
@cheribug - see my reply to terry. :-D thank you, cheryll.
