i consider myself lucky that despite the poverty we grew up in, i have travelled to a lot of places, local and foreign. this was taken in 1983; in the background is mount mayon, a very active volcano and is considered to have the most perfect cone - you can go to all the villages surrounding this volcano and you will get the same view in terms of shape.
growing up, we would visit an aunt who had a big house and a library with the complete set of encyclopeadia britanica and i would read all about the beautiful places to see around the world. i dreamed of going to paris, to england, to moscow, to new zealand, to brazil, to peru. i have been to most of those places, but none gave me the most satisfaction than seeing my own country. i have been to most of the popular places in the philippines and some secret gems, from the northern luzon to the southern mindanao and places in between. seeing those places gave me a sense of pride of how beautiful my country was.
and now that i have adopted another mother country, those past travels made me appreciate better the beautiful places that canada has to offer. i have been to the maritimes in the east and partner and i are planning a visit to the west one of these years.
i took this photo with my minolta xg-1 using tripod and self-timer and konika film. scanned using an hp scanner.
That volcano is so perfect I thought it was a pyramid in the thumbnail. You have had an adventurous life my friend!! great shot.. :-) and wonderful reflection of your life.
Beautiful shot, great story.
I once worked with a lady called Luzviminda. Her parents were proud Philipino and had named her after the three major regions of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Your story made me think of Minda (what she made us call her) after many long years :)
What a wonderful photo. I think anyone who can travel around this world and see so many sites is very fortunate. I am thankful for the many different places we have been able to travel to
Beautiful capture! How fantastic to have all these happy memories. It is such a pity more people do not explore their own countries before jet setting around the world!
That is a beautiful Mountain. I live among volcanic peaks here. You are right. There is much beauty in this world we share. "the world is a book and he who does not travel only reads one page."
