where have all the sunflowers gone?

i've been looking all spring and summer and no matter where i go, i couldn't find any sunflower in the city. my search became all the more maddening last week when i have that photo in my head of sofia loren standing in the sun amidst a sea of sunflowers. that was the movie scene i so wanted to emulate for last week's get pushed challenge.

but no such luck, couldn't find any, not even one plant or one flower. zero, nada, zip!!! except at the florist - $20 for a bunch of five. and the season won't be complete without a shot of sunflower. but as a matter of principle, i ain't buying.

so, black-eyed susan it is for today.
