under my umbrella, ella, ella!

rihanna is this country's best known artist. for the record, i didn't even know who rihanna is until today (where have you been, asked my niece!) and that she sang this annoying song. and oh, look, i'm featuring it in my album. but i kind of like the flag of this country which is depicted here.

thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.

Do you really know all these flags ahead of time or do you think up the country and then find out what the flag look like? I am amazed at your flag knowledge if you already knew them!! I do not know what country belongs to this flag or much about the artist Rihanna so I'm a bust on this one too!

@olivetreeann - i have a jar where i put the names of 40 countries that i have some idea of what they're famous for, and every morning i draw one slip from it. most times i forget why i chose those countries so i go to my irritatingly heavy visual encyclopedia with a section of the world's flags. if the flag is easy to depict and i have the colour in my scarf collection (roll eyes here!) then i just do the flag. i think that i will just do flags until the challenge finishes. i'm struggling with this challenge to tell you the truth. thank you, ann.

@summerfield I'm still impressed. Most people would not take the time to do the research! I knew I couldn't do a whole month of it. I've decided to take October off from all challenges! I'm on overload with the word of the day stuff and themes. I might do one or two if they tickle my fancy but I'm starting to feel hemmed in by them, not helped. This is a little scary as I think I've done a monthly challenge for over a year! Will my brain actually be able to think on its own? Will my eyes "see" a shot every day? I'm heading to the book shelf for Freeman's book now!!

@olivetreeann - i know what you mean, and i think you just verbalized it for me. i struggled with the august challenge but i enjoyed it tremendously at the same time because mostly i changed my way of pointing the camera at my subjects. i think i had a little bit of improvement with my shots; i certainly changed the way i look at things. but i need to practice more. partner most of the time prevents me from seeking the perspectives i want to create or see - he bosses me around and i want to whack him. hehehe! he's not 'artistic' but he gets me to places so i can't fault him for that. many times i'm hauling my ass to look at my shots for posting and i don't feel like it. but at the same time, it is also my outlet for whatever little writing i can manage of my time. the 5+2 was inspiring me quite a bit there for a moment - i'd do a self portrait but i would also shoot something related to the theme without me in the shot. but they're having squabbles and that put a damper on me. like you, next month, i will limit myself to just a few shots and no challenge unless there's something that really excites me or just do a week of it. i like to hone my processing skills a little bit even though i don't like it that much. i have PSE on my laptop for almost a year and i just braved using it the other night.
