there's only one fruitcake that i really love having and that is my friend donna beth's fruitcake. she started making this from her grandmother's recipe several years ago. it was her grandmother's practice to make several to give to her family and close friends. donna beth continued the tradition and i have been a lucky recipient since she started making this. i cut the cake in half and store half in the freezer, the other half is well wrapped and sits at the very back of the fridge and once in a while, when we want something special for desert, we'd have a couple of slices.
partner, who also wasn't a fan of fruitcake, got to like db's fruitcake so he makes it a point every year to clip coupons at the store where db buys her ingredients.
this year, the cake is bigger than the normal loaf but the first half is now almost gone, we may have to thaw out the other soon! hmmm...wonder if somebody's been into it while i was in manila???
