the celebrant by summerfield

the celebrant

or the priest, dressed in his full regalia, who celebrates the mass and/or service. this is at the Metamorphosis Tou Sotiros Greek Orthodox church, about five blocks from my apartment building. this was a late catch. i was taking a photo of another church door right across the street and i could hear this loud noise. when i looked, it was actually the incense burner that the priest was holding; he was blessing the entrance to which his congregation would go through for the service.

of course i realize that now, not only do i have to be aware of what's around me, but to also mind the noise i hear. earlier i had to opportunity to shoot a lady in a bright red dress driving a canary yellow vespa. i heard the noise of the vespa but i ignored it. then when i was walking around the danforth, i heard another motorcycle that almost hit a pedestrian; again, i heard the motorcycle before i saw it, but apparently, my reflex is not at all coordinated with my brain. :-D

but i am still happy with this photograph. you can make out the incense burner and its shadow and the priest's shadow cast on the door.

At first I thought it was some kind of musical instrument but the write-up made the shot make so much more sense!

Can't blame you for ignoring the noise of the Vespa! ;-) Looks like the priest is sporting a little baby bump there?

@stray_shooter Ron, you are being blasphemous....and, you will burn in hell!! ;-))) Yes, Greek priests can marry, but they cannot bear children!!
Great capture, Vikki....funny, even before I read your description (and, kudos to you for getting the name of the church right....and, it is a mouthful!) I thought that looked like a Greek priest. However, he is wearing an unusually colored garb! You might also want to heighten your sense of smell while looking for unusual people to capture...the incense smell is quite delightful.

I like the tones and softness of the capture.
