the uncredited photo

following up on my little rant in my post yesterday, this was the newspaper supplement cover of the globe and mail where the office i work for was featured. on page 35 was an article along with a photograph i took in the summer for our 'day of pink' event.

i looked at all the photographs in the supplement and none of them were credited to the respective photographers (except for 2 where the names of the featured organizations were watermarked on the side of the photographs themselves) so i can understand not having been given credit. what disappointed me was that it was used for an outside publication. i would not have minded it if it was for 'internal' use but i would have expected the powers that be to have at least asked me or informed me that they were going to use my photograph for an outside purpose. i'd have gladly given my consent and they know it. the fact that they didn't let me know beforehand, and considering we are supposed to be one of the best in intellectual property practice in the country (we're supposed to be the best in protecting clients' intellectual property rights, among other things), is a rather big disappointment.

thank you, kind folks, for your visits and comments; know that they are greatly appreciated.

It is nice to be published but it would be much sweeter if you had been informed and credited.

@bill_fe @salza @francoise @grammyn - nah, i'll get over it. but methinks from now on there's going to be no more freebies unless i want to give freebies.

I completely get your position!

You did good work. They should have given you credit, though!!

You are completely right! They should have not done it this way!!!!!

I still say you should make a point of mentioning it to someone. If for no other reason than to let them know that what they did was wrong and you won't let it happen again.

Ooops on their part. Someone should hear your opinion if only to give them the opportunity to apologize.

I had the same thing happen this year with cross-country photos being published in the local paper. The author (the coach) was credited with the write up, but my photo and another photo did not receive creds! I contacted the booster club and said that in the future, they were welcome to use my photos, but to please add the proper credit. They were actually taken aback! But I'm glad I told them--they get all my stuff free!
