this is the inter-city train timetable situated at the great hall of the union station, juxtaposed against one of the massive arched windows of the station. the station is just across the street from our office building.
the write-up in wikipedia describes the union station as "the largest and most opulent railway station in Canada." the building was constructed from 1917 to 1920 and was officially opened in 1927 in a lavish ribbon cutting ceremony by Prince Edward, Prince of Wales using a pair of gold scissors. the station is presently being renovated and revitalized which would last through year 2015.
today i used my 50mm lens, and it felt kind of weird. but i suppose i will get the hang of it in time.
thank you for your kind views and comments; they are much appreciated.
That window and the lighting are captivating! Beautifully done ... I hope that they don't "modernize" this gorgeous piece of architecture! Where are the gold scissors ... now they would make a great photo op too. Eh?!!
i adore that window... as for the nifty fifty - i remain ambivalent... the lightness and the f/1.8 are awesome... the limited focal length i find crazy-making... let me know how it you like it after you've used it a while
@karenann - thank you, KA. i'd love to see and photograph those gold scissors!
@northy - i feel as you do about it. my focus is kinda soft for now. i like it for close subjects though, it's awesome. i'll let you know. thank you.
@michaelelliott - thank you, ME. there are about three or four windows like that at the station and each looks different. @northy has some kick-ass shots of this station, you know.
@michaelelliott@summerfield the coolest thing about that window is that it houses hallways / offices - at least 2 if not 3 or 4 floors of them... and if you hang out there long enough, you can see shadowed figures walk thru it... i could stand there and gaze at that thing for hours and i am determined to get a shot with people walking on multiple levels :)
@northy - i'll ask around. i almost got a pic with someone walking behind, not this window, but the north one, other end. i think when i saw it my jaws dropped to the floor and the figure was gone when i recovered and thought of shooting it. tee-hee! i myself wondered about that today.
