get pushed #31 - shoot up

my favourite get-pushed partner, michael girard, and i are once again paired off for the get pushed challenge this week. he challenged me to "shoot up, you choose the subject, get your camera down as low as you can and shoot up".

this past week is 'heritage week' in toronto and there were a few free tours of toronto's old buildings to be taken in. the flatiron building had a free tour today but didn't quite make it as i went to see another building. going to the market, however, i passed by the flatiron building and took a shot of the fire escapes of the building from below. one of the nice things i love about my canon is the flipping monitor (no, not swearing!). i can switch it on to live view and rotate the monitor so i can make adjustments with my focus. yup, heard chuckles from passersby.

so, this is looking up, against the wall, and that's part of the north entrance to the building. kind of strange isn't it? it looks like a 'horizontal' shot rather than a 'vertical' shot.

see the building's full shot here: http://365project.org/summerfield/365-again/2013-02-23
@mgirard - here's a shot in response to your challenge. unfortunately the camera had on the 55-250 lens that's why even though i was so close to the ground, the lens only picked up from this part of the door up. i have another shot but will post it tomorrow. thank you, michael.

wow - what a unique perspective! challenge met~

It's kind of a cool optical illusion. I did think it was a horizontal shot at first and was trying to think of what kind of trolley would use that kind of track!

@eniaral - thank you, laraine.

@olivetreeann - it did play a trick on my mind, too! my first thought was "where was this? i've not been on a patio or anything!" before i realize it was a wall and i was looking us. toink! thank you, ann.

@roth - thank you, sue. partner thought the same thing!

@sarasdadandmom - thank you, terry.

@salza - the building is quite a lovely building. maybe i should make a series of study in photographs. hmmm...that would be a nice idea. thank you, sally.

@aurorajane - thank you, aj. it's actually brick/concrete, the details are quite stunning in person.

You have some simply wonderful images; however, I failed to see the dreaded "selfie." My challenge for you is to take a selfie, but it must be sooc!

Wow, fabulous, I knew I was right to love this building

So very cool! You got super definition on the building - at first look I thought it was pavement.
I love doing this with trees but never thought of it with a building. Now I have the T2i so no flipping here!

Very excellent perspective shot and a great response to your push! I love those staircases on the flatiron... And somehow I totally missed out on heritage week- rats!
February 25th, 2013
Cool, interesting details and you don't see fire escapes very often anymore!
I have to apologize, I simply haven't had time this week to attempt the water droplets. I'm hoping to get it done tomorrow morning.
