we have a really crappy weather that came from down south :-) and we are expecting snow, sleet, hail, blizzard. that means no taking photos during lunchtime. plus i'm sequestered by meetings and all those things that are part of that thing called work. well, it puts food on the table and expensive SD cards on the camera so must grin and bear it.
so if i have to re-do this, what do i have to change? probably shoot with less sand and more sky?
why would you have to redo it? In case in snows and you have to reuse this shot? I cannot believe you guys are getting a blizzard ! Hang in there, lady! Oh, if you ever retook this pic I'd try holding the camera down right on the sand near the tracks, angling up at the sky....or as close to the sand as you can. It might look cool too! But this one is amazing...how can it look like this and now a blizzard?
This is a very well balanced photo. I like it. I don't think you need to re-do it at all. But if it snows, it would be fun to get the same photo with snow instead of sand.
@cheribug - this is of course, just part of the edge of lake ontario. the beaches go on for blocks and blocks. when i go there, i had to go with purpose and have to know exactly which spot i go otherwise, it'll take me forever to get out of there. the shoreline to the road is about the equivalent of five city blocks. thank you, cheryl.
@bkbinthecity - we'll see how it goes. thank you, brian.
@steeler - we have a snow blizzard starting tonight. fun wow it will be. thank you, howard.
@espyetta - it's for the sooc challenge for this month, but you get a second chance to re-shot something if you feel there's a need to. thank you, MB.
@claireuk - it's been raining and it feels like crap. it doesn't matter that they say the temperature is plus 10 it feels like the dead of winter! not that i'm complaining. i'm cool. :-) thank you, claire.
@henrir - well, thank you, henri. it is nice to hear. i've been looking at this and yes, i still can't figure out how i will make it better.
@eniaral - thank you, laraine. i will try playing with the other shots to see if more sky and less sand looks better. i mainly like it for those colourful townhouses that breaks the sand from the sky. i will for sure re-shoot this in the summer when the trees have leafed.
It's not bad- but it's not a "wow" shot either. I'm not sure what is found to the right in this place but I'm assuming it must be the lake, so I'd play around with a couple different ideas. I'd definitely do some shots with the camera on the ground- some with it pointing straight ahead, some with it shooting slightly upward. If there is water to the right, I'd try a couple where the curve of the beach leads you to the water. Also, I would try to not put the tree line at dead center- either slightly above or slightly below (rule of thirds). I think I'd prefer putting it below center if the sky was blue and had clouds as this one does. I might also try a few shots with the camera somewhere between knee and waist height. I don't if that would look good or not, but I'd try it just to see! Well, that's my two cents worth!
Great shot. The only thing that distracts my attention from the tracks is the sand to the left. Odd, I know. I think because the tone of the sand on the right is slightly darker then the tracks, they become more pronounced. But they seem to blend into the sand to the left, same tonal range. Does that make any sense? Lol Maybe in my mind only, but the doctor swore that lobotomy was a good idea. :P
Other then that, great capture.
