i had all the intention of re-shooting the yellow crocuses this morning but they were gone. all that was left were bits and pieces of the petals. it seemed some animal had made a breakfast or probably dinner of them. which means i have to wait for some flowers to bloom.
i was a bit wary of exposing this crystal ball in the sun as there was a warning that "if exposed for more than a couple of minutes in intense sunlight, it might explode". couple that with my scouting experience when we had to make fire out of a magnifying glass and dried branches.
I love how yours has that stand! I had never hear they explode but did know they burn! I was making a list of photography stuff to buy today...forgot to put this! I need a crystal ball. This is such a pretty scene! Hey..we are both finalists in motion blur challenge.
@cheribug - you burned your hand with this thingamajiggsky? ooh-la-la. i'm really nervous that day i brought it to the beaches when it was sunny. i had visions of it exploding while i was focusing on it. yaiks! thank you, my cheribug.
@monaalta - i'm running out of ideas this early. :-) thank you, alta.
@espyetta - must update that list pronto to include the crystal ball. when we're tired of photography, we can just dress up as gypsies and pretend we can do scrying. tee-hee! must check the motion blur challenge. have you voted or are we trading votes? ;-) thank you, MB.
I voted...I voted for the wacky teeth toy thing! The one scootng across the table....that thing cracked me up the moment I saw it last week! And the gypsy the sounds like a great plan! Will keep that in mind and buy proper attire!
Oh wow another fantastic crystal ball photo, love the blue sky, wonderful dof and focus and the tiny sparkles at the right top of the ball. Glad it survived the sun exposure, would be a shame to ruin it!
Wow, I must try to get one of these balls. I have seen a few pics of them in the sun and haven't heard of them exploding! If one is a safe distance away it could make a great shot!
What a fantastic image. The setting is beautiful. The up-side-down world with the stars in the crystall ball is amazing. Instant FAV, Is it possible to shoot this from a lower vantage point so that the crystal ball will "break free" from the rock". That would have been interesting to see.
I think you could start a nice bonfire and have a beach party.
Actually our lighthouse has one of those amazing Fresnell lenses and when it was in the sun in the museum, no one noticed at first but the wall got charred black where the lens focused the heat.
it might explode? omg! that's like telling me not to touch the chocolate in the cupboard because... well... just because! i'd be setting out to make it explode and be sure to take a picture of it ;p
really love the clouds and sky reflected in the ball... they are amazing!
@helstor - i did try some shots that way but because it was too bright, i captured a lot of nasty reflections or shadows, too. and i was so conscious of the sun shining through and that nasty warning label. need to get comfortable with it probably. in time i hope to get better shots out of it. thank you, erik.
@inertie - thank you muchly, pinar. i'm really considering that 'little prince' interpretation using this.

@tanja_1211 - thank you, tanja.
@salza - it probably won't explode, i'm just paranoid reading that warning label. thank you, sally.

@denisedaly - thank you, denise.
@lafish - thank you, laurie.
@henrir - thank you, henri.
@myhrhelper - thank you, KB.
@pandorasecho - one or two people had said they burned their hands through a similar ball. yaiks! thank you, dixie.
@sarasdadandmom - thank you, terry.
@northy - well, you know, i have that in mind (the chocolate, too!). i don't know why i take warning labels so seriously. :-P thank you, kiddo.
