get pushed #56 - before and after

mary siegle @mcsiegle challenged me "do a diptych telling a before and after story."

been dithering the last few weeks to colour my hair. in fact, i've been wanting to have my hair cut close to the scalp so that only the white shows. my hairdresser refuses to do it because she says i'd feel terrible because white hair makes us asian look old. i have news: i'm old! hello!

in any case, last week when partner and i were in sarnia and waiting for the sunset, he asked when was the last time i coloured my hair and i replied just before my birthday which was almost two months ago. well, he said he wants me with dark hair. at least he was honest. i knew he just wanted a trophy wife! (did you spill your drink? tee-hee!)

in any case, my colour was on sale at the pharmacy this week so that motivated me yet again to colour my hair. but i still dithered. then today, i still haven't come up with an idea for mary's challenge. (heck i haven't even come up with any ideas for the book club challenge.) then the light bulb over my head flickered before switching to bright idea mode and i thought i'd take a before and after of my hair.

you can see the before pic, the hair was really in desperate need of not just touch up but a major colouring. the after pic, i look a little bit decent, i think i removed a few days off my age. i used the point and shoot so the settings would not have to change. heck, i'm surprised to see what a good shower can do to make me lose weight!

so there you go, mary. a before and after story.

thank you for your kind visits and comments; i appreciate them all a lot.
Love it! You look great in both, but I must say I think the color does make you look a little younger.

Although I do like streaks in the hair like the before one, the parting looks a bit like it would have got more and more white and so what you have done is exactly right! Your expression, however remains exactly the same! Quizzical!

love the story ... gosh it could have been mine if you replace your partner for my next door neighbor who nags me till I color it. My husband doesn't seem to care about the color. One time long ago I got it cut real short and boy did he notice . Only thing he has ever asked me NOT to do again.

I get lazy and wait and wait and wait to color my hair. And I haven't had the extra money for a hair cut for a while, so the hair was getting grayer and longer. Then I was asked to speak at church- motivation!! Stood in front of the mirror, and said, "That looks straight" after cutting off 2 inches. Then I discovered I had the touch up stuff and not the whole head color, dyed it anyway and it looks fine! lol You're lookin' good- before- and even better after!

@mcsiegle - mary, you approve?
August 18th, 2013
I do approve -- both the hair coloring and your answer to the challenge. I've thought occasionally of trying coloring my hair, but am too chicken. And at this point I think it's too late. The difference would be too stark and end up making me very self conscious. So my hair is mostly white.

Your before and after could be one of those magazine ads :-) Only thing you'd need to fit the ad stereotype is no makeup on the before, in contrast to the flawless after shot. LOL!

I'm at the horror movie con this weekend -- made two attempts today at the second option challenge you gave me, with mixed results. I may try again tomorrow, but won't post anything until Monday. The Internet access at the hotel has been intermittent. I'm tapping this out in the iPod.

You look wonderful before and after. And you are right, we all grow older! Take care Summerfield!

Vikki, it is hard to look at your hair when those eyes grab all the attention; the first thing that drew me to himself was his gorgeous green eyes, now HE is older they are more yellow;0)
Your hair colour is just lovely, I am opposite to you, I colour mine blond and the dark roots show BUT get this, if I stop colouring my hair it is grey, so where does that grey go and only dark roots show??
Just love your eyes, take care hun, have a good Sunday

Fabulous selfies! I just see that mischievous grin! :-) I do agree with you that in the after pic your face does appear slimmer

wonderful story and shots! I also get my hair highlighted every 7 weeks to help hide getting older... my husband and children sometimes notice when the hairdresser goes on vacation when I am due...lol

You look wonderful! I had the same doubts in my mind before my hairdresser talked me into trying it (coloring the gray). I was shocked at the difference in the way I looked (as in SOOOO much younger!) I have to say the same for you -- coloring the gray does make you look much younger. I'm not ashamed of the gray -- but I do not want to look older than I am. So I vote the same for you -- go with looking younger! I think it also helps you FEEL younger when you look it! Show your beauty to the max!

Great job - on the photo and the hair. You have inspired me to go out and buy some hair dye because mine is also very overdue - but it usually sits in the bathroom for a few weeks before I get round to using it.

I have to keep getting my hair coloured, but luckily my sister is a hairdresser so she does it for me! Every now and then I think I'll just let it go grey and grow old gracefully, but not yet : ) Great before and after pics, I think your hair in the after pic looks the best!

great before and afters,

you met the challenge with flying colors ~ (so to speak)

beautiful both ways, but you honestly look younger on the right.. and I think it is the way you styled your hair. The part is a bit different..

you look beautiful in both shots; it was very difficult to grow my hair out and yes, i did feel older for a bit but not because of how people treated me, but because i was used to this routine of changing hair colors. i never stayed with one color, used to put highlights and stuff in mine. now it is soft and shiny all the time - i, too, had to argue to have my hair cut short - my face it fat, but it is MY HAIR and MY LIFE so i did what i wanted.
