see the sidewalk, busy sidewalk

it snowed in the early morning and the ground was covered in a thin dust of white. with the wind chill, the -9 felt a lot colder. people walked with their shoulders hunched, as doing so seemed to alleviate the cold, gloved hands ensconced in their pockets or arms across their bodies, their breath steaming out of their noses and mouths. the italian grocery store had piles of firewood just outside their door to the left, and fresh wreaths and small trees just to the right.

there's still something magical about Christmas, no matter how commercialized it has become. i know a few people who are not Christians but they still like Christmas. what's not to like - 'tis the season to give, 'tis the season to be merry.
Nice idea, the fisheye lens makes the scene look like something inside a snow globe. Very holiday.

Hello. You have me for a Get Pushed challenger for next week. I've had a look at your work and an rather intimidated by all the challenges you have undertaken and what you will/will not take on. However, how about either (1) making a still image that includes 5 items with an interesting POV and/or lighting or (2) a food image which could be suitable as an illustration in a cookery book or advert in a magazine. Let me know if either of these work for you.

@northy - my nikon has a "retouch" menu where you can adjust your raw shots like d-lighting, distortion, and fisheye effect among other things. it doesn't take b&w like the canon, but it's where you can turn a shot to b&w in that same menu button. thank you, kiddo.

Love the fish eye effect! And yes, even thought Christmas is not the same, probably not as "full of innocent joy" as it used to be, it is still wonderful. I get two weeks off of work, I like thinking of the perfect gift for people, I love putting up the tree and remembering where I got each ornament, and I love getting to see my family. So..like you said "What's not to like?"

I love the Christmassy feel of this shot- very pretty! One year my sister, her husband and I went Christmas shopping at this quaint little outdoor mall. The shops looked similar to these. Late in the afternoon, it started snowing and my brother-in-law started singing carols as we walked around. "It's just like Currier and Ives!" he kept saying. We really had such a blast! Hope your holidays are just as happy!
