there was a long line up at the check out at wal-mart tonight and partner wasn't so thrilled. i amused meself by shooting everything that's in the shelf - donuts, chocolates, and roses. (clever sales strategy, wal-mart!) the roses are crappy, with the edges starting to darken. this bunch is the most decent of all. then a young man asked got in the way.
"Excuse me," he said, "I need to get some flowers, it's my girlfriend's mother's birthday and I forgot about it was tonight. I have to get something."
i pointed this bunch to him. "This is the best of the lot."
he looked at me and at the bins of roses, hesitated then chose a bunch of yellow roses; one fell off but he picked it up and dropped it inside the package as if by doing so the flower would re-attach itself to the stem.
i made a face and slowly shook my head.
"No?" he asked.
"If your future mother-in-law is not a picky person, maybe," i said.
he smiled, and said, "I already got what i want, I don't have to impress anyone anymore."
i raised an eyebrow. "Well, good for you!" i said. he walked to the end of the line with a smug smile.
Wow. It was totally his loss. As he tells the story to his gf, she might think twice about his choices.
It will come back to bite hi in the end with an attitude like that.
...nice colour of bouquet you snapped...
Even though Wal'mart didn't have perfect flowers your photo is very pretty. I love the story. He should impress every day. Or at least surprise. I love each little moment.
