at my favourite restaurant, bangus, which is the local name for milkfish which is a sort of relation to the salmon. its specialty is, you guessed it, milkfish, which i love about anything filipino food. in this particular restaurant, they serve just the belly parts, full of omega fat and everything that is good for your cholesterol. tee-hee!
from the top left, deep fried belly served on a bed of crunchy kangkong (the local water cress) leaves with tamarind sauce; top right, belly cooked in a sour broth (the sour coming from unripened tamarind puree) and local veggies, the more sour it is the better; bottom left, large prawns (they're not really large by my standard) cooked in crab's fat; and, garlic fried rice, the more garlic there is the better.
the rice was consumed totally with the sour broth dish and we brought home the rest so that we actually have food in the fridge but we won't know when we'll get to it because we have to go out of town tomorrow and i have a bag full of filipino goodies that i'm going through right now.
the lunch was downed with a glass of green mango shake for bff and some screw pine (pandan) jelly drink for me. (sorry, forgot to take pics) i think our veins are starting to shiver from the impending assault of cholesterol.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know i appreciate them all and looking forward to them.
