i am of two minds with a situation like this. i think our culture expects us to act our age, and dress our age. but at the same time, i believe that if you got it, you gotta flaunt it. there are certain clothes that look good on younger people, but if you think you look nice in them and darn if you're over 65 already then by all means wear it.
personally, i wouldn't be caught dead in an outfit like this. but then i was never the 'groovy' type. my clothes are and always have been of conservative cut and line and i generally stick to the same colour. but if she is comfortable with herself in wearing this outfit, why not and who am i to say that she's too old to be wearing something like this?
in the early 00's when i joined a writing group, the members all wore funky clothes, rather bohemian-ish. but because i was always coming from work when i attended our meetings, i always came wearing suits. when we had a public reading of our works, i was the only one, both writers and audience, wearing suit. at first i felt very self-conscious but then i couldn't wear the type of clothes they wore. i was and am more comfortable wearing suit than casual outfit in public functions.
still, i wouldn't be caught dead in that outfit. makes for a nice sc photograph though!
thank you, folks, for your visits and comments; know that they are truly and greatly appreciated.
You had a good photo opportunity here that's for sure! But I'm afraid I would hate to be seen like this - so would my friends, children, pets, insects, slugs - well anything, really!
Fantastic candid capture and definitely a perfect subject for SC! I'm with you when it comes wearing such an outfit. I always say 'each to their own!' and sure why not as long as you are comfortable.
Super cool with the sc. I dig it. Hey, funny you should have this. I am trying to use ribbit now to do SC, you had said it was pretty easy to do there. Can you tell me what to look for, what is it called? Do you use it for free? I am working on a shot and I want to make all the red bits red, but certainly don't want to take the time to color it in. Any advise would be great!
@amandal - in ribbet.com click "effects" and then convert your photo to black and white, the first item on the menu. clicking it would bring up the colour palette and brush and you can s/c your little heart away. :-) you can get it for free without logging in. but if you register, you will have access to the premium features. it's free anyway so you're better off registering. can't wait to see your photo! thanks, a.
my friend brenda wants me to thank you all for your nice comments before she kills me for posting her photo. i'm wearing my power suit today so she can kill me anytime as i really wouldn't be caught dead wearing something like this!
On the one hand, I don't care what age you are, this outfit is a candidate for What Not to Wear. On the other hand when you do reach this age, who cares what others think- you've earned the right to be bold and crazy if that's your style!
I loved reading all the thoughts that came to your mind at this sight, and I felt a similar kinship. I've joined a number of art groups over the years, and I love that bohemian look that some of the grey-haired women can sport, but I simply can't do it. For awhile I thought it made me less "authentic", but I was able to get over it...in time...
