he's come, my love, he's come! by summerfield

he's come, my love, he's come!

a long time ago, i read a story about a woman in one of the islands, who lived in a small town by the sea. she always stood on the same spot on the shore waiting for her beloved.

he was a fisherman and she was the village teacher. in two days they were to be married and the whole village was looking forward to the big celebration. the night he left, a storm was brewing on the horizon at sea. she pleaded for him not to go, but they needed the extra money so he could buy her a small house.

"i promise you, i will come back. no matter what happens, no matter how long it will take, i will come back for you." he declared as he looked into her eyes and kissed her hand.

she watched his banca as it sailed away. that night the storm passed over the village but by morning, the calm has returned. but not him. so she waited. and waited and waited.

and then one night, she saw it, his banca, and he's in it, and he's waving at her, and he's calling her name. she was so happy, for now the waiting has ended. he has come back.

she ran across the sandy shore towards the sea. she was calling his name. he was calling hers. she had to get to the banca because she could not wait. so she swam towards it, she kept swimming, until she could not swim anymore.

forty years since he left, but now he's come back for her.

sheez! my mother told it a lot better. i should improve upon that story and make it my own, since i have a photo to go with it anyway. :-)

@northy and i went tonight to her part of lake ontario. it had been a beautiful day, with just the right temperature. the water was still. and shitty! first thing i did when i came home was take a shower and washed my feet and legs thoroughly, yet i still feel like coodies are going to form on my skin. bleh!

thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated. special thanks to @northy for the company. i had a shot concept for the two of us that involved chocolate cigar, but i forgot about it and i forgot to give her her chocolate!
It is a great story and this picture is perfect

Such emotion in this shot before I even read the story. It captures the romance

A super image. Cool story, but forty years? Did he have his children and grandchildren with him? I really like the cloud formations and the sparkles on the water.

This story is a real one for me - when I grew up there was a lady dressed in leather indian gear who used to stand in the middle of the road on our hill, looking out to sea! Not every night but often. We just got used to her and never thought anything but learnt her son went to war and never came back! This picture, a bit close to home!

Hello! I'm your get-pushed partner for this week and I read through your post about all the challenges you've done plus had a look through your project. Wow! Lots to look through :) I think a challenge of "a photograph of unusual material" is hopefully different from the ones you've done before and suits you.

I have limited Internet access for next couple of weeks so I'm behind in my uploading but I'll check in and take part. Look forward to seeing what you set for me. x

Those stories are always so disappointing. Why do the lovers part? You know they will never see each other again. You scream at the book, "Don't go! Don't go!' and still they go. The only way they are reunited is in death. Could someone come back right away, just once?! LOL I would not tell the story any better either! No tension, no climax, no tears for Romeo and Juliet. Fun shot.

I love the misty mountains; go well with idea of someone waiting 40 years.

Oh I so love this photo and was wondering where it was taken. The rolling hills a fabulous. By the way did you see the movie "Overboard"? A similar story was told of a woman waiting for her lost love at sea. FAV

@cathrinemitch - i've seen a movie called "overboard" but it was a comedy starring goldie hawn and her husband, i think it was in the early 90's. it's a composite of two photographs, the sparkling sea water was in the islands when i went on my vacation, and the moi, was taken last saturday when northy and i soaked our feet in the gucky waters of lake ontario. thank you, cathy, especially for that generous fav. i'll see you friday.

@summerfield Yeah, that the movie and Kurt Russell told her this story. What a blast.
