this is from the islands where i took the sunset photo on wednesday. i was already ensconced on the picnic table with my gears when this pair came, threw stones on the water before settling down to watch the sun as it set. they came from the nude beach which really was just about a few yards behind me, my back to it (no nice view in there; trust me). and since they're there, they're at the mercy of my camera.
speaking of the nude beach, when i was walking back to the main path, i stopped to shake sands off my shoes. two people were behind me and they walked past me; first a young girl, then another person who i heard say "please don't take my picture" which i ignored because even though i was holding my camera, i wasn't taking any picture.
when he said it a second time, i looked ahead of me and i saw the butt of this person, walking slightly ahead of me but with his head slightly turned to tell me not to take his picture. i said i wasn't taking his picture and i won't. then he slowed so that we were walking side by side (because i was walking fast so i could get ahead and not see his bareness, yeah?!). he asked what kind of photos do i take. i said landscapes, sunset, sunrise, but not portraits.
there i was walking and having a small talk (not initiated by me) with a young naked man. would i like to take a picture of him, he asked, and i politely, in an even tone, replied no. then he quickened his steps ahead of me and posed in that funny pose, his whole life in front of me, and he dared me to take his picture. i looked at him from head to toe, and i said, "nah, no." i reiterated that i don't take photos of humans!
what i found surprising was that i didn't even panic, was so calm and nonchalant about it. when we reached the area where the 'clothing optional ends, i so casually told him, 'i don't think you should be walking around here like that, put on your pants'. and he walked to a nearby bicycle and pulled out the pair of pants draped over it.
maybe i should find another place to watch the sunset. darn! that's also where i would go to watch the airshow this weekend.
Oh my Vikki, I can see you were distracted but were you able to get a sunset pic or did you forget what you came for. Maybe you should bring someone with you next time to keep you on track. LOL
LOL you always have the best stories! Beautiful shot of the couple. I wonder what he would have done if you picked up the camera to take his picture. ;)
I think he was really trying to get you embarrassed! Don't like these guys - a bit the same as the guy I encountered last night! I think I need a whacker on the end of my camera!
A beautiful sunset scene, great composition and lovely colours. The man seemed desperate for you to take his photo, sounds like you kept very calm and put him in his place!!
Good lord, Vicki! You and @maggiemae have ALL the "exciting" run ins on your travels! Were u alone? I am glad that guy was not violent! The photo is wonderful... Reminds me of the movie poster to Room with a View. Glad it was not Mr. naked Man in the pic!
@bill_fe - hahaha! a few people told me i should've photographed the guy. first of all, i'm not interested, in him, nor in photographing someone nude. second, what do i do with it? i can't and won't post it here, nor anywhere else. so do i keep it? if partner sees it what would he think? if you find a photo of a naked man in your wife's computer, what would you think? third, this man would then have a legitimate excuse to get my name and my phone number so he could get a copy and might want to get paid for having posed. nope, those are situations that could make one's life complicated. not worth a shot, i say.
@cathrinemitch - no, this shot happened before that incident, my friend. and no man, naked or clothed, had ever nor will make me distracted. thank you, cathy.
