here's the tulip from last wednesday. i've been eyeing it for the flash of red challenge. i'm trying to learn how to see an object in black and white and my eyes just keep coming back to this.
i thought it was perfect for tonal contrast, with the graduation of the red from dark at the base to lighter towards the tips of the petals. i shot it a second time, slipping a black background but this one works more for me than the other. i've posted it on my challenges album. both were shot in natural light, the window to the upper right. same settings but the exposure decided to change itself. shot in manual and processed in-camera. http://365project.org/summerfield/365-again/2015-02-01

I like this . I considered shooting in B&W for this challenge but decided today to shoot in color and post process. Now I am rethinking to shoot in B&W. Hmmmm decisions decisions!
I definitely think that the light background is the better background for this. The black plays down the contrast while the lighter one assists to bring it out. The two-tone coloring also works in favor of tonal contrast simply because it is exactly that. Nicely done!
Nicely done.....I think I prefer this one, mainly because the base of the other one, the red part disappears into the black background. I like the way this one seems to emerge out of the light background.
This one is softer, almost dreamy. Great capture although I think at present I prefer the drama of the other one. Who knows on another day it could be the other way around! :-)
