actually the guitar is supposed to be a folk guitar not a jazz guitar, but we will pretend we don't know.
got that bokeh note right after 55 darn shots! and they look like notes, right? when i drew it, it looked like a note, but after i cut it i thought it looked like a drag queen's platform heels! i have nothing against drag queens, in fact i love them. and their platform heels.
anyway, armed with my "portfolio" i went to my appointment with the flower shop. they liked some of my shots and requested i get them framed and bring back. they liked mostly the black and white and the flower shots. the deal is they will use (or display) the framed photos as part of their decor but they would also be for sale. i set the price and they get 20% of whatever they sell. i thought that was fine, for now, as long as i get some of my expenses back and a little bit of profit.
i made a detour going home and passed by an obscure gallery at the beaches. and since i was lugging the 'portfolio' i thought "why not?" very bold, huh? the man said he's the curator and sat idly as he browsed through the photos. some shots he stared longer, others he just flipped through. then went through the whole exercise again. then he said he wanted to see the photos properly matted as that's how he could envisage how it should be framed or hung. as the curator was saying that, i was thinking of the article (the link from yesterday's post). how right it was. the curator also told me to have some of the photos processed to black and white. tarnation!
so off i went to the frame shop which i discovered last year was about 50% cheaper than at black's. i had some of the prints matted and i got some cheaper frames and i will have to work on them in a week's time when i get back the matted prints. i shall also have a half-dozen shots canvass printed and framed. i'm thinking even if i don't sell some of them, i can at least hang them on my wall.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.
Like this shot, so happy you have done it. Had a similar idea I my head for months but could not execute.
Sounds fab re the gallery, 20% seems very reasonable! some places here want 40!
Drag queen's heels! Haha! You are so funny! I need to try shaped bokeh thing this summer. This is very cool !!!! Jazzy! And good on you for getting your photos out there and also just printed for you. I will be printing some for me too. Will start with a few from Paris trip
Love the bokeh. As I am your Get Pushed partner I challenge you to create a minimalist photo. I hope you can return the favour by challenging me to something - however I prefer no portraits or selfies. I am also doing Film February and Flash of Red so will not be using Photoshop this month and my photos will be B&W. Hope you can think of something for me. Thank You.
I do like the heels! I wouldn't know a jazz guitar from a flamenco dancer, much less a folk guitar. Yay for you for displaying your images and opportunities to sell them. wouldn't know which one of mine to put into a portfolie-thingy.
I didn't see them as shoes, I saw them as notes but then I was focused on the instruments! That's great that the curator was interested in your work! Now I'll definitely be able to say I knew you when!
If you hadn't mentioned it I would never have seen the drag queen platform shoes, but now that you did......hmmm! Lovely shot, but I am so much more excited that you are getting your work shown, and that you are taking it to galleries!! What a way to start the new year!! Love how ballsie you are!!.....;-)))) Go get them, girl!!
Also, if you look at some of my house shots, you will see that I have some of my photos printed on canvas, and hanging on the wall at the entry. Most of the time I don't care much for canvas prints.....I think they dull the colors..... I have seen some beautiful photos printed on metal or acrylic, and it really brings out the colors, but they are much more expensive. There are online companies that area always having deals on 16x20 canvas prints....
Your bokeh photos are darling! I have no idea how you went about it, but I love experimentation, no matter the result!
I'm delighted for you that you're getting your work out in the public for sale! I left a number of framed pieces in Lunenburg to be hung in a gallery when it re-opens in March. I found Michael's to have lots of discounts on frames, and would be willing to hang the finished photos in my own home if they don't sell. However, when I had them sitting in the living room, one friend bought 5 to give as Christmas gifts, so I didn't even have to share with the gallery on those!
