Andrew Gibson's book "the magic of black and white" cites Michael Levin, a Canadian photographer, as one of the more popular minimalist photographers of the time. i've heard his name so many times and only had the chance to check his work when i read the book. i didn't see many canadian landscapes in his work but then again i didn't look much.
i looked back at some of my 'drive by' shots and found that i do have a lot of these so-called minimalist shots. like this one from last sunday while the car was going 115 kmph on the highway. the sky was dull dull grey and a tad misty and the two cars looked like little toys viewed from far away. i think this is minimalist enough. :-)
tagging this for the f-word challenge, the word being far.
again, for my get pushed challenge set by laura @la_photographic which was to create a minimalist photo.
i picked up my photos which had been matted and now i am faced with the task of finding a nice frame. they looked so different once matted, like cinderella wearing her ball gown, and the frames at the framer that i was going to get now looked bleh! and meh! i actually found one at ikea last weekend, thicker frames which i prefer for showing so i will have to go to ikea and try to find a better match for them.
the people at the framing shop were oooh-ing and aaah-ing at the photographs once matted. i almost couldn't believe i actually took those photographs. so for those of you who had been thinking of having your favourite shots framed, i advise you to do it tout de suite so you would see how beautiful your work is.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that i truly and sincerely appreciate them.
also, sally @salza and i are finalists in the artist challenge along with four other brilliant entries. might you want to take a gander and cast a vote. i'm not asking you to vote for my photo but for the one that you think best captured the essence of the artist's (paul cezanne) work. here's the link: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/24800/voting-artist-challenge-cezanne
This narrative is wonderful. I'm still not a huge fan of black and white but I like the February challenge because it does make the other details have a chance in a way they don't when color dominates. This picture looks like it should have an Amish buggy in it.
Wow, what a great week for you....and, what joy there must have been at viewing your photos for the first time all matted and ready for display.....your metaphor was very apt, like Cinderella at the ball! So proud and happy for you that you are doing this! I wish I could come see them hanging on the walls of that store... and, congrats on being a finalist for the artist challenge...you did great!
You are always so busy with so many projects and themes in here and get you work. How do you do that? Lol! Congrats on making finalist and I will go check that out. And lastly ... Very neat how you felt so proud about your matted pics! I used to reread things I wrote in college and would feel the same way. Not that they were that great but that they were pretty good and better than it sounded like I should be able to do
Lovely drive-by (or should we say "fly-by") shooting and an excellent minimalist shot. I'll be getting a bunch of my shots matted and framed soon- the camera club is participating in 2 shows so now I have to decide which shots and you know how much I LOVE doing that!
Thrilled that your new photo endeavor is going so well for you already!
Way ahead of you on the voting chica, did it yesterday!
