this is the pendant of a sweater necklace. i ordered it from amazon in december as a Christmas gift for my young model christine because she loves owl jewelry and anything owlish. well, it didn't arrive in time for Christmas and i've actually asked that the order be cancelled. i've forgotten about it, but still, this came last week, and i just dropped it in my bag and forgot about it.
on thursday, i was looking for something and i thought i had it in my bag but saw this instead. couldn't even figure out how it got in there. i bought some bite-size red velvet cupcakes that i thought i'd use for today's flash of red and somehow, this showed up again. so finally it occurred to me i can use it for my flash of red, since it's red anyway.
for the set up, i had a eureka moment at 3 in the morning - steal a twig from one of the bushes at the parkette and let the necklace hang around it. but i thought i could do better. i took the pendant off the chain and taped it from the tripod where the branch was clamped so it would look like it's sitting on the little twig.
there's just one problem now. i can't remember where i put the chain. darn! i wonder if i'm having the onset of dementia.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are greatly appreciated. and thank you for your very generous favs on yesterday's 'time and space' post. you folks are fabulous!
He's cute! I have a feeling the chain is draped around whatever you put it on when you went to attach him to the twig. A very clever flash of red. I was totally not into it this year! Just couldn't settle on what red thing to post. Oh well, I think my subject and your subject might have enjoyed each other's company. Good one Vikki!
Love this. I once envisioned something similar in composition, with a origami owl I had made. You captured this better then anything I could have come up with. The color selection is perfect. The comp is perfect. Lighting...perfect. Exceptional capture Summerfield. Fav!
So wonderful for the flash of red! Love the red on red against the black background....the little guy is pretty cute....the question now is: are you keeping him or returning him now that you have photographed him? That is, after you find the necklace...;-))
Simply gorgeous. That owl is just adorable. We are lucky enough to have a pair of owls living close by and the male often sits on our roof. So relaxing to hear them calling to one another during the night.
This is beautiful Vikki, so very creative. We should really live close by though we could keep each other company during the early hours of not sleeping.
@lfrans - nah, the cupcakes i ate the night before. :-) thank you, liane.
@olivetreeann - i must admit i felt quite good that i've actually translated into photograph what i had in mind. most times, i have this image in my head, then i try to put it together and it just won't work. this one almost didn't but i tried to shoot it so that only very little of the tapes would show to make for easier post processing. but my original idea, the boys' card that i got a week ago, would've also been nice. :-) thank you, ann.
@salza - you should stalk them with a long exposure! :-) thank you, sally; much appreciated.
@claireuk - i know!!! we can talk and if you want me to shut up, we can just shoot photos of anything! :-D thank you, my good friend claire. much appreciated.
OMG...you have 3:AM Eureka's, too?! I woke at 5 AM on the 14th and spent at least an hour trying to figure how I wanted to photograph that little "Heart's & Songs" Valentine! I was all about using the crystal ball somehow, and for that hour I kept trying to figure how I'd place the image and where I should stand to not get so much in the frame... duh...dawned on me this might not be the image for the crystal ball! Ken can't believe I'm awake in the middle of the night trying to figure out how I want to take a photo! haha! Love owls, too, and really like the red branch...makes a wonderful splash of red against the black!
