an imaginary book cover by summerfield

an imaginary book cover

our assignment over at the mad hatters (where i am filling in for jeff walker) is "book cover".

i had always imagined what my novel would look like when published. i had been working since forever on a story based on my parents' lives but photography got in the way so that's on the shelf right now. a lot of the members of the tribe would probably hate, disown, disinherit, or murder me if they would read what i had written so far, as there are a lot of side stories about them. some are probably somewhat perhaps distorted or mangled as my stories had been handed from relative to relative. and then of course there is the maternal and paternal camps. believe me, they both have different sides to any particular stories.

my father's cousin has written a biographical book about his american father and a lot of the truth are not accurate. but that book would be useful for when i finally sit down to finish my own novel.

when i was young, there was a saying that was taught to us in school: that if you throw a stone in the air, someone's bound to get hit. believe you me, there will be a lot of people getting hit by my big stones.

after my mother died, my father found a box underneath my bed one day i was at work. it contained snippets of stories about everyone in the clan that my mother told me when she was still alive, or things i had overheard from relatives about other relatives. he burned them. but, i remember most of what was in there and have re-written them. this novel, it will not be very pretty for anyone once i'm done writing it.

but the cover is pretty, no?

see my mad hatters' post here: almost similar but different colour - http://365project.org/madhatters/365/2015-04-08

i etsooi'd this to death and back, both in photoshop and ribbet; started out as gray, then green, then blue then black and white and then for this one, i inverted it and this was the image that came out.

thank you for your kind views and comments; know that they are truly appreciated. i admit that i am way behind in commenting yet again. but it's a busy time at the office it being tax time and all, plus i am slowly working on my own income tax return.
You are such a writer already. Every day when you post, you are writing a book. I love this cover and want to buy a copy when it is a reality.

Great job with the processing.....this book cover already makes your long anticipated book so much more intriguing! And, you know I would be the first in line to buy it.....and, might even show up at your book signing, even if that's the first time I meet you in person!!

I like this one even more than the MH one. But... you left me intrigued. What did your father do when he found the box under your bed?

both are incredible, your talent continues to awe and amaze me. in a book store, a b&w cover would stand out among all the color.

@summerfield Good thing you were able to remember so much. I used to have an amazing memory, now, not so much.

@bill_fe i know what you mean about memory Bill - I do get things coming in snippets and must remember to write them done as they come - 1st job is to remember to buy a little notebook to keep handy hahahaha

Oh Vikki, you started a wonderful round-table conversation here! The book cover is an amazing bit of photography and art...love it! Your caption reads like the inside of the book jacket...begging us to read all that's contained within! It sounds like a goodie! (My cousin, who was the first person in the Peace Corps to marry a local Nigerian, has just published a biography about her experiences. Our mutual cousin called me excitedly one night to tell me I was in the last chapter! It was about the visit to LA for the Olympics, and apparently she was very kind. I'll be ordering my copy soon... As in all families, I've been told there are some bomb shells!)
