we brought the grandkids, ivy jean and young jack, to the toronto islands early this morning. i had a bye from the family as partner bonded with stepson and the kids, and i walked 1.5 kilometres each way to the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse. going there, i traversed the shoreline more than the pathways, although it was a little bit more difficult to walk on the sand. i loved it! i had peace and quiet and the morning was quite beautiful to take in.
i had been wanting to see this lighthouse but had been unable to find it the few times i went searching for it. it is supposed to be one of the oldest building/structure on the Great Lakes. it was completed in 1808 as an hexagonal tower 52- feet high topped by a wooden cage with a fixed whale-oil lantern. in 1832 it was raised to 82 feet and later equipped with a fixed revolving light. the mysterious disappearance of its original keeper, J.P. Rademuller in 1815 and the subsequent discovery nearby of some human remains only enhanced its reputation as a haunted structure.
i found these ferns along the pathways and rather like the glowing effect of the sunlight on the leaves.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly and greatly appreciate.
