i think i was absent when our class studied greek mythology in high school. because i never paid attention to who orpheus was no more than i paid attention to who eurydice was. i knew orpheus went to hell to get her beloved but exactly what eurydice did to him for him to love her that much was kind of hazy to me. and exactly what was i doing and where was i during greek mythology? oh, i know, i was cutting classes so i can practice playing guitar with my buddy because we had a gig at a beer garden in the afternoon. well, hey, there's the connection with orpheus: he was a music man and i was practicing my guitar play. that should do it.
so what is that delphi oracle all about? must read up on that at some point. might also re-read helen of troy because frankly i don't understand how there could be a war just because of one dudette.
for the five plus two's orphic theme this week. guess what? i made that lyre thing. kinda cool, hey?
I have been to Delphi- it's quite beautiful in ruins. In its heyday though it was a madhouse. The Oracle was usually an older woman. She'd come to the shrine, stopping by a fountain or natural spring of some sort, drink the water with a few hallucinating type herbs and then go sit on a three-legged stool in the temple, inhale a few more hallucinogens and then people would pay to hear what she'd say. Of course by that time she was so strung out she acted like a blithering idiot! At any rate, people believed she could foresee the future. Well, she was seeing things alright! That was the reality, but I don't know what role she played in the myths. I know we studied them at some point but the only two I really remember are the fellow who tried to fly and the poor soul who was condemned to roll a boulder up a hill for eternity. Wow- I rambled on that one, didn't I? Great shot- and the lyre is superb!
@olivetreeann - thanks, ann. i really didn't know what to do for this theme. it's almost like half eurydice (which if i go by the description was an incredible beauty which i am certainly not) and half oracle (which i could be as i am now an old woman), but heck, whatever it was i was portraying was good enough for me. :-)
