it's a holiday today here in canada, it being canada day, the dominion's 149th birthday. of course we are no longer a dominion, we are now part of the Commonwealth (formerly the British Commonwealth). how do i know this? i learned that, along with other historical facts on canada, 25 years ago when i applied for my citizenship. so much for that blah.
what's that got to do with this photo? well, this is part of my tea service; and as you know the British is known for their afternoon tea. and several years ago when i went to England, i was introduced to afternoon tea, as opposed to high tea. afternoon tea happens at 4 where it serves as a stop-gap between lunch and dinner for the privileged which is served normally at 8. afternoon tea is served with cakes and scones with clotted cream. meanwhile high tea used to be enjoyed at 6 by the working class which technically is equivalent to today's suppertime as it was accompanied by hot and more filling food. (that was explained to me by my hosts who were old money English)
and note, it is an affectation to raise your pinky finger, even slightly, when holding your tea cup, or your host will not be amused.
high contrast black and white this month. how's this one, ann?
