we can do it! by summerfield

we can do it!

week 34 of the 52 portraits of me project. the prompt and/or theme for this week is "to imitate an icon".

i was conflicted about whether i was going to do another carmen miranda or something else but that would've involved hauling out all the blings and dressing up and putting on a gazillion tons of make-up. hard to do if you're having a bad stomach and have hardly eaten anything all day. [oh, look! that's how i am when i'm too hungry.☺] initially, i was going to do isadora duncan, but that would've involved me posing on my tippy-toes and my bunions weren't up to it. i also did a jackie kennedy-onassis with my large silk scarf but i looked more like the queen whilst walking her corgis in heavy rain, so that was scrapped, too. no offence to her majesty, of course.

so, in the end, Rosie the Riveter was a lot easier to emulate. inspired by the poster We Can Do It an american propaganda poster as an inspirational image to boost (female) worker morale during WW2.

I hit the wrong button too soon! Thank you for the history lesson. My mother was one of the women who worked in a factory during WWII. She sewed canvas for tank gun covers. Something I only learned a few months before her death. You have done a fabulous job of portraying an American icon. You epitomize that strong, determined, female.
