time is like a handful of sand - the tighter you grasp it, the faster it runs through your fingers. - Henry David Thoreau
we are still on the study of textures this week. five different textures featured here - the polished glass of the hour glass, the gritty sand inside it, the coarse wooden dowel on the right, and the smooth metal and glossy plastic of little blue at the back. the falling of the sand is not quite clearly captured here as i think i shot this with a long exposure. i had to process this from raw to show the sand's texture more. this hour glass' duration is 55 minutes, it's unbelievable. you can't hurry the sands up, yet when they're in their last few minutes, they just fall through and you're left holding your breath until it finishes. if you want to watch actual time go by, you should get an hour glass.
i bought this a long time ago, perhaps five years ago, from avon, would you believe? i forgot all about this until i opened one of the boxes in my spare room recently. need to shoot it more i suppose.
thank you for indulging me on yesterday's silly self portrait. your kind visits and comments and more importantly your very generous favs are greatly appreciated.
That falling sand....Such a great visual reminder of passing time. I've always wanted to get and hour glass--it's still on my wish list. Nice work including all of the different textures in black and white.
