various websites would give you different versions of this cocktail. but the classic way i learned it in mixology is it is made up of 2 oz of gin, 2 teaspoons of dry vermouth and stirred in a glass with a couple of ice cubes. you can use a shaker but the taste is harshly altered because more of the ice melts and blends in with the cocktail. the stirring method ensures the cooling of the cocktail with much less melted ice. then you strain it into a cooled cocktail glass. and that's how james likes it, n'est-ce pas? as in james bond.
the appletini here was made the same way but with a dash of creme de menthe to give it a green tint. okay, my hands aren't that steady anymore so the dash became a leap! also, the classic martini is never served with salted glass rims.
what i learned from taking this photograph (14 shots, would you believe; the other 3 only took three or four shots) is that (1) i don't have cocktail picks, (2) i actually own these champagne bowls and that they could double up as martini cocktail glasses, (3) i should really really endeavour to organize those boxes and get rid of my excesses, (4) i actually have forgotten about these crystal set, (5) i really suck at lighting, and (6) i could and should probably sell them on ebay. or not.
too much work, too much learning. thank goodness it's a holiday tomorrow.
I love your appletini procedure. But I wonder if the reason it took 14 shots was because you had to drink the other 13 props to keep them from being watered down too much. Hmmm. I wonder. I am glad you found these pretty glasses. Nice set up.
A lovey shot and composition. Is it called Appletini due to the colour and decoration? I have never heard of it. As to selling the glasses, I would keep them as they are lovely ;-)
@henrir hahaha I would certainly drink the 13 props! And yes, certainly stirred, not shaken! Why getting rid of those nice champagne glasses? I just recently bought a set of English crystals from the 20s. They’re so nice (and serve well for cocktails too, especially in terms of quantities 😉)
I am totally impressed with the amount of trouble you go to for your photos. Of course they are exquisite and very professional looking! In my opinion that makes it all worthwhile
I shall be saving these posts for when I next want to make cocktails. Yours was an inspired choice for the week as I guess you are having to clear up by drinking the cocktails. Cheers, have a great holiday!
Looks like this week has been a very tasty one for you! Do you think you'll be able to get #7 off after having the 6 previous subjects? (o: Colorful week!
You must feel better making all these cocktails this week. I hope you're entertaining and not sitting at home by yourself getting drunk! (Just kidding) I love the various shades of green in this photo.
