i am surprised that there still exists a few payphones around chinatown. this one is located where everyone else passes by and one would think that you cannot miss this as you go by. but i have never seen it. but then again, even if i know it's there and i need to call someone, i wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole lest i landed up in quarantine!
Haha - guess not. I have seen videos of younger generations trying to operate a dial phone. Not only do they not know how to dial, they first try to dial the phone and THEN pick up the receiver to talk. Very funny video.
Very wise to keep one's mitts off that seething mass of goodness-knows-what! We still have a few payphones around but haven't seen one as grotty as that one - yet.
A great find and definitely best not to touch it get too close. I haven't seen a pay telephone in years. Probably the last place I saw one was the Airport many many years ago. Now they only have charging stations.
Quite the nostalgic find! Someday when you are an even more famous photographer it will be a great commentary of the way life used to be in the olden days
