this is a sort of a diary shot. this was a discarded piece of jewelry, it has a couple of serious dents on its smoother half. i had always thought it is gold-plated, i.e. a fake and would use it only as a prop. my jeweler recently examined it more thoroughly and determined it is of 10 carat rose gold and dates back to the late 1800's. now it has a certification and accompanying appraised value. but i'm afraid i might lose it as the clasp is a tad bit loose and i always forget i'm wearing it.

Wow -- what an interesting history! I had a similar experience recently with a ring I thought was fake, but turns out it's about 100 years old. Wish I could remember which aunt and on whose side it came from!
