it shies away from the sun

i was host of the after-service lemonade at church today. i came in early thinking i could set up well before the members start coming in. before i saw the caretaker, i was cooling my heels outside and took pictures of the two sunflower plants in the garden between the church and the office building. i thought this one would've opened by now but it hasn't and in one week produced more little buds. the other plant was much smaller and you can see its flower in the back.

i have read a long time ago that sunflowers follow the position of the sun during the day. this plant seems to be looking southwest instead of east where the sun was. can't blame it, the sunlight was so intense and the humidity was bad. the promised storm in the morning and in the afternoon had not materialized as of this time.

i hope it's not going to be this hot next week when i go and meet up with the guys in chicago!
Beautiful focus.
