bulk cargo carrier

first time i've taken a photo of a big ship on the lake. this is a bulk cargo carrier entering the waters of the Redpath sugar factory. it's almost as big as the building, but yes, they're as big.

"Fednav owns [this beast and] their ships usually have either one or two tugboats (depending on the conditions and pilot). Many of these ships are named after rivers, for example, the Federal Elbe, Federal Rhine and Federal Schelde. Often, they’ll go to the anchorage if there isn’t a pier available for them." - wikipedia

this is my last week to get a view of the lake from my boss' office. we will be moving to another building in the middle of august but i'm away for a meet up in chicago next week, so when i come back i doubt if i have time to look at the lake as i will be packing my station as well as my boss' office. i will miss my lake view. it's been my go-to since i started 365 whenever i'm out of ideas to photograph. this is also the first time i've seen a cargo carrier making its way to the redpath to pick up raw sugar. in our new offices, all i will be able to see is the neighbouring skyscrapers. maybe it will be an opportunity to spy on all those slacking workers!
It does look large! I like it in B&W!

Great shot, b&w works very well.

Oh what a shame that you will be losing your 'go to' place, I do hope the new vista will show up some surprised and interest for you and that the move goes well - not to mention the Chicago trip. The cargo carrier on the lake makes a fine shot in black and white - with all the subtle patterns in the ripples on the lake surrounding that big bulk. Glad you could catch this 'first' whilst you still have the view.

It almost has a "war correspondent" look to this.

This is a nice shot - the water looks calm and the fact that its a big cargo ship means Chicago is doing well!
